SpectralFPL: Online Spectral Learning for Single Topic Models
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the problem of learning a latent variable model from a stream of data. Latent variable models are popular in practice because they can explain observed data in terms of unobserved concepts. These models have been traditionally studied in the offline setting. The online EM is arguably the most popular algorithm for learning latent variable models online. Although it is computationally efficient, it typically converges to a local optimum. In this work, we develop a new online learning algorithm for latent variable models, which we call SpectralLeader. SpectralLeader always converges to the global optimum, and we derive a O( √ n) upper bound up to log factors on its n-step regret in the bag-of-words model. We show that SpectralLeader performs similarly to or better than the online EM with tuned hyper-parameters, in both synthetic and real-world experiments.

Fast Unsupervised Automobile Insurance Fraud Detection Based on Spectral Ranking of Anomalies
Collecting insurance fraud samples is costly and if performed manually is very time consuming. This issue suggests usage of unsupervised models. One of the accurate methods in this regards is Spectral Ranking of Anomalies (SRA) that is shown to work better than other methods for auto insurance fraud detection specifically. However, this approach is not scalable to large samples and is not appro...
متن کاملOnline learning of positive and negative prototypes with explanations based on kernel expansion
The issue of classification is still a topic of discussion in many current articles. Most of the models presented in the articles suffer from a lack of explanation for a reason comprehensible to humans. One way to create explainability is to separate the weights of the network into positive and negative parts based on the prototype. The positive part represents the weights of the correct class ...
متن کاملOnline-learning: exploring practices among Foundation doctors
Introduction: Postgraduate medical education involves the use ofonline-learning tools. However, there is a paucity of data on theuse of online-learning among doctors who are in their 1st and 2ndyears of professional work after graduating from medical school(also known as Foundation doctors). Our aim was to explore theuse of online-learning among Foundation doctors. Methods: A cross-sectional stu...
متن کاملOnline Bayesian Passive-Aggressive Learning
Online Passive-Aggressive (PA) learning is an effective framework for performing max-margin online learning. But the deterministic formulation and estimated single large-margin model could limit its capability in discovering descriptive structures underlying complex data. This paper presents online Bayesian Passive-Aggressive (BayesPA) learning, which subsumes the online PA and extends naturall...
متن کاملThe Effect of Online Learning Tools on L2 Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary Learning
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of various online techniques (word reference, media, and vocabulary games) on reading comprehension as well as vocabulary comprehension and production. For this purpose, 60 language learners were selected and divided into three groups, and each group was randomly assigned to one of the treatment conditions. In the first session of tre...
